Australian Contrast - Rain / No Rain

I took these two photos nearly 13 years ago near Murrindindi, which is about 100km north-east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

This part of Australia has a Mediterranean climate with cool to cold and wet winters and warm to hot and dry summers.

This was taken on 27th October 2005, which is in mid-spring, which is the green season after a lot of rain during a wet winter. (Taken with an Olympus mju 500, which was my first digital camera.)

This was taken about two and a half months later on 4th January 2006, which is mid-summer. Fairly clearly, there had been little to no rain since the top photo was taken. (Taken with an Olympus E-300, which was my first DSLR camera.)

This area is also subject to periodic devastating bushfires.

Re: Australian Contrast - Rain / No Rain

Surprising what a few drops of rain can make. In the 70's, whilst in Kuwait, I saw the desert go from brown lifeless sand to lush green vegitation. Those 'few drops of rain' lashed down for almost a whole month washing away roads and bridges. Mother Nature is nothing if not resilient.

Re: Australian Contrast - Rain / No Rain

It is quite a contrast.

I'm looking forward to the rain starting tomorrow. Right now we need some more decent rain. http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/...blelands.shtml

Then I can break the mower etc some more.
