ORF files from OMD E-M10 with Capture One

Just bought a brand new Olympus OMD-E-M10 camera. Still exploring and learning this amazing little camera.
I normally take RAW images (even if the Jpeg images of the E-M10 are very good) and my preferred program is Capture One Express 7 which can extract more details than Lightroom-ACR.
What bothers me a bit is the processing time of the ORF files - it takes 35 seconds to convert and process an image from ORF to final Jpeg.
Is it normal? Is it because the sensor of the camera is 16 Megapixles?
Just to compare - it takes just 20 seconds to process a RAW file from the 20 Megapixles Sony RX10 in Capture One for Sony.

Re: ORF files from OMD E-M10 with Capture One

Hi I am surprised that capture one 7 express does process em 10, I use capture one 8 pro 64 bt that processes my em5 very quick about 150 images in less than 5 minutes.

I don't have the 7 express any more , so can't say for sure but that seems long even for Olympus software does it faster.

The Olympus program does it a bit faster but the Capture One is way better...
It makes me wonder does it make sense to upgrade for the Full Pro Capture One version?

Capture One Pro 9 (9.1) is even better (with features).

Sure the Capture One Pro 9.1 is better, but the question is will it be faster?

I wonder what others are using with their OMD E-M10 and what processing time do they get?

This reviewer has a plus for "New faster, better processing engine".

For myself I am happy with the speed, but that doesn't mean it is as fast as you might expect, however, is your Express 7 running on 32 bit o/s? Since 8 it is all on 64 bit O/S now.

What's new in Capture One Pro 9

Re: ORF files from OMD E-M10 with Capture One

A slightly side question on Capture One.

I've been a long-time Lightroom user/fan because of the whole workflow. However, due to skewed colours I've been recently exporting TIFFs from Olympus software and importing into Lightroom to do any editing. Of course this adds time and heft to the process.

Thus I'm keen to try Capture One. But I understand it does not hold the same workflow, from library/image selection all the way to exporting.

How do you manage photo libraries when using Capture One for editing? Do you still use Lightroom or some other tool for that separately?

Re: ORF files from OMD E-M10 with Capture One

vytasx,

Here is my workflow with Capture One
I do not care about libraries -
Import RAW images into Capture One - the import is usually to a an external hard drive as I do not keep the original RAW files
I do not create any backup.
If I am not able to finish the batch I repeat the same procedure next time.
After finishing the RAW developing process I export the images as Jpeg.
Sometimes I work on them in order to improve them using Nik Software Viveza 2 inside Photoshop Elements.

The colors and the details I am getting from Capture One are far better than Lightroom - or - ACR.
I have to mention that controlling the White Balance in OMD10
is more difficult than both E-PL1 and the old E-1 - it requires more work in the RAW developing process.

Hope it helps.
