Looks interesting given the time-lag that Apple have in supporting some new cameras.
What I am not sure about is whether there are some tweaks to the firmware between what on the face of it seem identical cameras, which would mean that a straight fooling of the software would have unforeseen results?

I had gathered from the web that the RAW files from the Pen cameras required to have lens geometry correction applied, so using another base for the RAW conversion would not resolve the lens "errors"

Re: Aperture 3 raw conversion app for E-P1, E-P2, E-450, E-620 & Lumix GF1

I was told today that Apple have createtd a new version of the Raw Decoding program that is used in Aperture, iPhoto, Finder and Preview to display RAW files.

This new version has support for lens geometry correction builtin, so it will now be possible for Apple to issue new code that will support cameras that use inbuilt firmware to convert "distorted" RAW files into undistorted Jpeg files or use camera manufacturer supplied programs to do the RAW to Jpeg etc.

The person who I spoke to said that Apple would be increasing the support for these type of cameras.

The RAW conversion program can be downloaded and installed from the Apple site.

Apple have added Raw support for the following cameras

Hasselblad H3DII-50
Leica M9
Leica X1
Olympus E-P1
Olympus E-P2
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1
Pentax K-7
Pentax K-x
Sony Alpha DSLR-A500
Sony Alpha DSLR-A550
Sony Alpha DSLR-A850

Get it via Software update or by vising the Software Download part of the Apple Website (at time of writing standalone download not available) - I expect it will be there in a few hours

Seems it only works with new imports - unless I suppose you re-import old images?

Every time you look at an image in Ap you are reading the raw file along with the adjustments unless you are only looking at the previews

Please explain what you are seeing - if the camera you are using was supported prior to this update then it should not make any difference unless the actually RAW processing for the camera has been tweaked

Re: Aperture 3 raw conversion app for E-P1, E-P2, E-450, E-620 & Lumix GF1

I had imported some E-P1 images before the update and obviously they were shown as an unsupported file format.
I had assumed the update would read them automatically but it doesn't read the previously imported files (still show as unsupported format), but does read them if I re-import them.
I assume it is something to do with how Aperture reads and marks the file on the initital import.
