Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Thought the above might be of interest to some members. Bought Digital Camera mag on the strength of this, crap mag but you don't even have to buy it to get this, as I discovered, just go to the link below, download the software, wait for the activation code to come through, which it does virtually straight away, enter it and away you go. It really is rather good, beautiful interface, a bit like Lightroom, could even be used as a stand alone editing suite for those on a tight budget. Works on Windows and Mac BTW, just tick the relevant box. Whats not to like. Regards, Ian W.

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Do you know if it can be used with a single image rather than merging 5 together ?

Yes it does !

Thanks for this Ian, I've just downloaded it and will have a play..

Likey!!

Works very well - better than LR. It even works directly from ORFs.

Thanks Ian!

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

I've tried a few images and it seems to work very nicely (and with ORFs as Paul says).
Thank you very much for the link

Cool. This is the company whose CEO is the Oly Visionary & bird photographer Scott Bourne.

I imagine they're about to bring out a major new version, or possible a version with it integrated with other products.

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

I've installed the 2018 version and first impressions are good. It's managed to produce a very convincing result for one of the very few exposure-bracketed images I have, made inside the beam engine house at Kew Bridge museum - three hand-held exposures at -5, 0 and +4 stops! Thanks Ian W for the link .

Here is the nominal exposure OOC jpeg for comparison purposes:

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Had a quick try and it seems quite good for what it does.
I find grabbing the slide bars at the bottom and the right a bit tricky, they are so narrow, and it defaults to 'Architecture' mode, I can't find anyway to change the default ... yet.

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Agree 100% about the slide bars Keith, it doesn't help that the difference in tone between the control and the background is minimal! Still, thats better than the Windows 10 start menu where the bar doesn't show up at all until the mouse gets near it, and then it disappears again once you move it .

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Know what you mean about the Win 10 bar, Otto, but in all fairness you can use the mouse scroll wheel to do the job. With Aurora you have to use those minuscule bars.

If you don't like the Win 10 Start bar, then take a look at Classic Shell. It's the first thing I install whenever I get a new Win 10 computer:

A very good suggestion, Paul.

Unfortunately, though, Classic Shell isn't being supported anymore, as from late 2017 -

http://www.classicshell.net/forum/vi...php?f=4&t=8147

It does look very good but as the program writer says 'each update of Win10 causes more incompatibilities' which, among other things, is why he's stopped, as can be read in the link above.

If it works for you then great, I hope it continues to do so

Do you, or does anyone else, know of any alternatives to Classic Shell which makes Win10 feel more like Win7?

Yes. Hard to believe the original release was the brainchild of Trey Ratcliffe.

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Thanks for the tip IPWheatley.

I've downloaded and had a quick play - mostly presets - using a 3 bracket exposure I took handheld at the end of last year.

This is one I processed in Lightroom from a single exposure.

And this is the rest of a few minutes in Aurora HDR 2018. Starting with the "Landscape Realistic" preset.

Nice to have another tool in the box!
