Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 M Zuiko Lens

Is there any news about the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 M Zuiko Micro Four Thirds Lens?

I seem to remember this was promised for October/November (2013 I presume), but it is now January, and nobody seems to have any stock.

I would really like to try this lens but I am losing hope that I will see it in my lifetime!

Re: Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 M Zuiko Lens

I gave up and bought as part of a kit, local dealer did me a special deal as a long standing customer and I got the camera and lens for 1800. (Believe me this us a one off and I won't be as lucky twice with other gear) I was really surprised to find a soft case and a lens hood as part of the package, hope the supply issue improves for those wanting the lens very soon.

Yes sorry about the delay - priority was rightly to fulfil orders, but I am hopeful we'll get stock in very soon - I have requested an update today.

We do have a couple of E-M1s, one of which is going out to a hire customer today as it happens.

OK thank you Ian. I sometimes need reminding that I am an Olympus owner, and therefore patience is needed!

Lens hood ???

Can't be an Olympus lens then!

Olympus Pro lenses have always had a lens hood and a soft case

Just been told there are no 12-40s available at this moment but there might be an E-M1 12-40 kit. I will update you if I get anywhere with this.

On the positive side - a couple of HLD-7s should be on their way!

I bought an Olympus 12 ~ 60 for my E5, which came with a lens hood but no soft case.

I seem to remember we discussed this matter here a few months ago, and this policy was generally seen to be short-sighted.

I know other soft cases are available, but I particularly like the Olympus ones, and would gladly buy them for my other lenses if they were available.

You are right - my mistake. I think this was a change of usually policy at the time.

Re: Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 M Zuiko Lens

I am not sure how the ranges of 4/3 and m4/3 equate to each other. There are three grades of 4/3 lenses: Standard, Pro and Top Pro. There are also three grades of m4/3 lenses: M.Zuiko, M.Zuiko Premium and M.Zuiko Pro.

However, I am not sure if the Pro grade in each format is the same or if the Top Pro and M.Zuiko Pro are similar grades. It also seems odd that the m4/3 45mm and 75mm lenses are both rated as Premium, despite one costing about three times as much as the other.

But there was a time when even the lenses I can afford came with a hood and case!

I know I'm creating mischief, but even Damian McGillicudy agrees with me, he publicly chided Olympus about this at the Circus event.

Re: Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 M Zuiko Lens

I bought my E-M1 as part of a split kit and the soft case for the 12-40 was still in the box. I will probably get the 12-40 at some stage in the future and will no doubt have the case too but if anyone wants the 12-40 soft case that I currently have, they can for a nominal sum (postage plus a bit more). Please PM me if interested.

No, not yet. Olympus didn't launch anything at CES this week but I suspect that is to keep their powder dry for the Japanese CP+ show in a month's time.
