Black Redstart

This handsome little bird is rarely seen in most areas of the UK but on my recent week in Corfu I had the pleasure of getting close-up and friendly with several. Needles to say as it is obvious from the images, these encounters were all in and around harbour side tavernas!

The very handsome male:

His less handsome Wife, but nevertheless very comely:

Re: Black Redstart

A fair old way to go to capture these but very obliging of the birds to meet up with you in the tavernas!

Both lovely images but the feathers on the male bird are very well defined.

Re: Black Redstart

Apparently 'start' is an old name for a tail. So it's a 'black red-tail', which is a good description!

He is an elegant looking bird David. Both lovely shots. I like their lovely clear eye - as well as that splash of red of course.

Re: Black Redstart

Very nice capture David.

I have only ever seen one once before and that was at Sandwell Valley in the winter of 2001. It had the local twitchers running around trying to find it when I told them about it.
Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.
