Dad 'n' Dave

I don't know if any of you have heard of Dad 'n' Dave.

It was a very popular radio series that ran in Australia from 1932-1952. There was also a movie made in 1920 titled "On Our Selection" and I think an even more modern version made starring Geoffrey Rush & Leo McKern.

The advertising blurb went - "An unconventional farming family of charming half-wits who survive on boiled pumpkin and parrot stew and half-baked get-rich schemes."

Anyway - travelling through Queensland we came across "Rudd's Pub" in a quaint little town named Nobby. They grow peanuts around Nobby - the Ad line is "Nibble Nobby's Nuts". And I'm not even going to go there.

Here is Rudd's Pub.

The room where Steele Rudd reputedly wrote his stories is a B & B.

Sketches have been placed in the window illustrating the characters.

Need I say more?

Hope you enjoy them.

It is a risk stepping out of bed in the morning. You need to make sure you know where the gozunder is, especially if ya filled it through the night!

I love these Lyn.

When we first moved up to the mountains we used removalists called 'Dad & Dave', but the funny part was, they really were like Dad & Dave!

I fiddle with violins (when I'm not fiddling with a camera).

Re: Dad 'n' Dave

My late Dad used to listen to Dad 'n Dave on the radio here in NZ. Going by the odd quotes from it that he used when we were kids, it made a lasting impression on him - just his style of humour!

Re: Dad 'n' Dave

Thanks all for taking a look at these. Bit of fun I thought!

Chevvy - I am too young to have heard the programme too!
I am glad this post gave you a chuckle! Think of Nobby everytime you eat a peanut!

Mark - Did you like the fence in No2?

John - If those walls could talk it could be quite amusing.

Ross - You broke me up - I haven't thought of "gozunder" for years!

Rosemary - Like your Dad, my Dad used to quote bits of the radio show too. The show has crept into our folk lore as even my husband will say (when he is not happy with something he has been building for me in the garden) "It is a bit Dad'n'Dave".
