On Gossamer Wings

I'm out of my comfort zone when I get into close ups but took advantage of the moment when it alighted quite close to me out in the bush.

Nice Shot.

(mind you in a UK group I suggest a shot of snowflakes would be more appropriate to the season, or are you trying to make us jealous?)

Yes Mark nice close up with well controlled DoF.
Nick with the current temperatures in the UK it doesn't feel much like winter though.

For someone out of their comfort zone, you look like you were pretty comfortable in taking this one. It looks a great shot.

Suck eggs.

We've had a few days of nice warm sunny weather to boast about now.

Certainly a bit of snow would be a welcome change here, Nick. it's too hot to be outdoors for long. Early morn and sundown are the most tolerable hours.

Aw thanks Ross. I admit that I'm no birder or macro man, I seem never to be able to achieve the level of excellence that I've seen some can here.

Very, very nice Mark. I like the DOF with the head and right side branch.
Get ready to bunker down by the air con for the next few days with temps of 39 expected.
Happy Hot New Year.

That's a lovely sharp shot, full of detail. You made the most of the opportunity!

Now that is getting hot in the south! Thankfully we will be somewhat cooler during that time & getting up to 31 on the Wednesday, but the aircon will probably go on for the extra warm days. Must be time to clean the gutters now.

Thank you Lyn.

As you say, we are heading for a hot New Year but not all of us commoners have the luxury of air con - I bet your carpet is virtually smothered in big black carbon footprints!

Thanks John. The 12-60 is a very nice lens, isn't it.

In my case it would be black dog hairs & maybe my black muddy footprints.

Actually, we try to suffer the heat with just fans untill it becomes uncomfortable & then the less green methods might be employed.

Superb shot Mark, absolutely spot on I would say.
And as you say the 12-60 is just such a fantastic zoom, you can do so much with it.

WoW ! I am an avid lover of Dragons ... and THIS is not one I have captured a shot of ... YET ! It is superb ! you have caught the clarity of the wings in a most awesome way WHAT LIGHT YOU HAVE JUST NOW

some Nature lioving friends told me "to get to the reserve early, as first thing these move and fly slower with the weight of the morning dew" ... BUT I guess thats not a problem down there in your heat

If it's true that they fly slower with the weight of the morning dew, it's an interesting observation Chevvy. The dew point here is so high that it rarely happens at this time of year when Dragons abound. Indeed we don't see them at all through winter.
