Tides up

High tide (though not a spring tide) along the North Bay at Scarborough - from a couple of days ago.

Thanks for looking.

Re: Tides up

thanks for sharing... brings back memories as I used to be able to see the sea from my bedroom window when I lived there...

Did you see "Freddie" the giant steel man on the front - impressive statue

Yes, ‘Freddie’ was still there - sitting not far from where I took these photos.

I grew up in Scarborough - wonderful outside the summer season with all the nearby coast to roam about and play in. The lure of the sea has remained with me ever since.

Re: Tides up

Chris, we would loved to have visited Scarborough years ago when we toured UK (1990) but it was a significant side trip off the main highway as we drove south to catch a flight to Austria. I have since seen tv docos that told of how Scarborough once was a trendy place where all "the very best people" would ensconce themselves at that incredible hotel overlooking the sea. Would love to see more photos of the town itself if you have any?

Great shot of the seawall too btw.

Mark,
Your wish is my request!
Here are a couple taken in September 2011 using my E3 + Pan Leica 14 - 150 lens.

#1) A four shot pano of the South Bay - taken from Holbeck Cliffs ( spot the Grand Hotel! )

#2) A seven shot pano looking northwards over the town - taken from the summit of Olivers Mount

Re: Tides up

Thanks Chris for sharing these wonderful panos, conjures echoes of Scarborough Fair! Yes, how could one miss it, the Grand Hotel, what a glorious era - maybe I was among the toffs who holidayed there, I'm sure I was a pom in my last life before reincarnating to Oz.
And reviewing your opening shot of the seawall, I see how well timed it was by capturing the guy casting a line just as the wave burst.

Mark,
Entirely accidental - this was good luck rather than good judgement. I was 'focused' on the wave to get the shutter release at the right moment.

Re: Tides up

Great shots from everyone as I think I have only ever been to Scarborough once.
