Maybe, or they'll look back with disdain at how ignorant & dumb we were to not act appropriately decades earlier.

We can look back at early medical practices like 'blood letting' & think what we will.

Think back to how hard photography was before the interweb. Photographers actually had to learn how to use their tools rather than relying on people on photo forums to explain the complexity of an on/off switch.

Hey, what's an on/off switch? Come to think of it, what's a switch?

I remember a great cartoon about a kid getting his A level results by post in an envelope, and he's yelling for his dad, saying, "what do I do with this?"

Having been close to a frost we're now getting the summer we didn't have in the summer. It was 28C feeling like 34 with the humidity this afternoon and it's 23C feeling like 30 this evening. I don't think it got any higher than that in July or August. It's forecast to hit 30C at the weekend.

A bit of a mixed bag then. It's warmed up here (when we get to it later today) to 30C & forecast to be 34C tomorrow (Saturday) but thankfully a cool change is expected to come through keeping Sundays temperature at 23C.

EDIT: Unfortunately, we won't be getting that cool change on Sunday with it being 30C & windy. Bushfire conditions will be rated Extreme for Saturday & Sunday. Not good.

Re: Bush fires today & snow tomorrow.

Having had a cool, wet summer our fire risk is low unlike western Canada where there are wildfires burning in BC and Alberta.

I suspect we may have had our hottest day of the year on the first day of autumn. It hit 29.4C feeling like 37 with the humidity this afternoon. The forecast is for 30C highs for the next three days.

Re: Bush fires today & snow tomorrow.

Hi here In Portugal, we have had the most number of Forerst fires, for over 1 hundred years over 400 of bush and forest fires, We had so many very large ones we had the help from Spain and France to deal with them we have only had 30 mil of rain fall in 5 months with record temps of 48 degrees C at times. Of coarse the blame is of the Eucaliptus trees says the Envernmentalists.

The Eucalyptus trees need to be respected where they are grown (with respect to which Eucalyptus species are grown) in relation to human habitation, because the Eucalyptus oil in the leaves can be quite volatile, but it is much larger human activity that is believed to be the major cause in the rate of climate change we are seeing now. I love my trees here, but also respect them, managing where & what size are grown near to our house (after making some stupid mistakes, costing us $1000's to remove them later on). We had pine forests grown on the outskirts of Canberra (several decades ago) & it was in the wrong position (& size) in relation to the local town & when a fire started in it due to dangerous summer conditions it blew onto the town taking out houses in the process. I'm not sure of the details now but remember a cousin losing their house in that fire, so the wrong trees in the wrong place can be disastrous.

Re: Bush fires today & snow tomorrow.

Hi Ross I know and like you respect them, a lot of the problem is Portugal is a small country, and many of the forests are national parks but the houses villages etc are usually in the middle of it all especially in the north of the country we live in the central area of the country we have had a couple of fires close by, unfortunely Eucalyptus trees are very productive and a good income for our country.

We live in the Blue Mountains of NSW, west of Sydney & the towns are surrounded by National Park(s), (world heritage areas) & basically it is scary when a fire starts in the Grose Valley, on the north side of the Great Western Hwy, because it can impact on many towns. The south side can be a large problem too, but it's those hot north west winds, especially now that we've had a very dry & warm winter, that can drive fires onto residential areas from anywhere up & down the Grose Valley. Anyhow, we can't live in fear all the time otherwise life may no longer be enjoyable.

The third day of autumn and I was out for the sunrise.

It was 20.5C feeling like 28 with the humidity when the photo was taken. Mid morning as I post this it's 24.8C feeling like 33.

We're supposed to have a couple more days of temperatures like that before it cools down dramatically, the high for next Thursday is forecast to be 16C.

That sounds nice. Actually, it's not that unusual for summer temperatures to extend a month into Autumn here.

It's not unusual for us either but other than the occasional day in the summer this is the only extended period of summer temperatures we've had this year.
