So do I, but unfortunately Jane doesn't eat meat, and they just wouldn't be the same with herrings added.

p.s. Sorry for diverting your thread Barr1e

Re: Christmas leftovers

Never a sprout goes to waste in this house, any left are mashed with potato and fried in Butter and Olive oil, bad for cholestorol but ooh the taste

Re: Christmas leftovers

I love sprouts, but they are not as good as they used to be many decades ago with their tangy, unique flavour. However, should not the sharp side of the knife be facing the fork

Most vegetables (parsnips, leeks, sprouts etc) taste better after a frost. It's supposed to bring out the sugars in them.

Re: Christmas leftovers

Must admit I only buy sprouts on the stalk and after frost, the machines they use to harvest seem to damage the stronger outer leaves.

Re: Christmas leftovers

I enjoyed all the contributions, thanks so much.

When I was young 100's of years ago I couldn't leave the table until I had eaten my brussels. I must admit they became my second favourite vegetable.

Happy New Year

Regards. Barr1e
