Metal BIF

Derwent/Ladybower, Sunday. Had to grapple with a very hazy atmosphere, so things weren't as vivid as I would have liked. However I couldn't do much about that!

See what I mean about the haze?

A sight no one will ever see again, I reckon.

It's always hard this time of year, the light is so unforgiving. Well captured though

Re: Metal BIF

Definitely not "vivid",
hey those two Lancs are really getting around these days!
Do you think the crews all live together in a big grey camper van?

Re: Metal BIF

Hello Corned,
Thanks for posting these, it must have been a fantastic sight and sound, I wish I had been there too. I saw the BBMF Lancaster at the Armed Forces day at Stirling Castle but to see the last two flying together is something else. It was a great tribute to the bravery of the 617 squadron crews who flew on the Dams raid at the very limits of what was possible. Not forgetting of course all the other Bomber Command crews who went out night after night.
Regards Jim.

Re: Metal BIF

Thanks, Jim.

Yes, it was a truly memorable experience, and in the most evocative of settings to boot. The sight was spectacular; the sound visceral.

I had been over to Coningsby two weekends previous to watch them depart north for some shows up your way, but the weather prevented any action, and I wasn't able to return the following day. I thought I had blown my chance, so you can imagine how I felt last Sunday.

I was determined to ge some photos in, but above that I was even more determined to just drink in the spectacle and see it with my own eyes.

It isn't always wise to see the whole of an event through a viewfinder...

Re: Metal BIF

I went along on Sunday, I have to say the lighting was dreadful as said very hazy. You have done well with the light available. I must get around to sorting through the best from the day.
Whilst the Canadian Lancaster was here I was lucky enough to see them fly together four time.

Just arrived back from the Lincolnshire Lancaster Association day at RAF Coningsby. BBMF flew 2 Spitfire 2 Hurricane Lancaster & Dakota together.

Re: Metal BIF

GREAT
sometimes the quality of the pictures is shadowed by the actual nature of what the pictures are off ! this is one of those cases imho.
I was lucky enough to see 4 RAF shackletons flying in formation after they where retired from coastal patrol, it was an awesome spectacle seeing 4 together and i had no camera with me
