Olympus 70-300 settings.``

I own one of these and occasionally get some cracking shots with it, but it's not reliably sharp at 300mm.
Don't get me wrong, it does give some good results but not always. I'm guessing the f-stop is the key to a crisp shot. Does anyone know of a resource that gives any suggestion of the best f-stop to use?

A quick search of this site will yield results I found that f8 was the sweet spot for that lens, although of course you need reasonable light for that, and it helps if IS is on.

I find with mine, that f8 and 280mm give the sharpest results. Not perfect at 300mm.

Re: Olympus 70-300 settings.``

I have been a little bit disappointed with my 70-300 when trying moon shots when I first got it.

Now I don't know if this is guaranteed to make any difference, but I recently took all of my kit through the software update process, and none of it required updating - apart from the 70-300. Will that have changed anything with regard to its ability to focus at full focal length? Who knows, but it may be worth a try!

Could you please tell us what version No. your 70-300 is now on so I can see whether mine needs updating. The updating process always seems a bit daunting so it would be nice to know whether I need to take the risk. Mine is currently on v. 1.4

Thanks in advance.
