My Weekend Secret

Inspired by ChrisG's thread about leisure activities I thought I'd post some images from last weekend at the UK Coach Rally at Peterborough.

I paint pictures of transport subjects and have been collecting reference photographs for a long time - it was my original reason for getting a digital camera. For good or bad these days photography battles with painting for my attention.

If anyone's interested in seeing what I do with my record shots please feel free to take a look at my website - www.transport-art.co.uk.

Re: My Weekend Secret

John - nice of you to take a look and thanks for the comments. Since I joined our local camera club a couple of years ago I my interest in photography for its own sake has increased greatly. I also think there's been a lot of 'cross fertilization' between my painting and my photographs.

Cheers

Paul

Wow, Paul... I too visited your gallery and you really have created some super transport paintings. I enjoyed generally browsing around, but the image that struck me the most, possibly because of the two stray sheep - was 'LOADS OF LIMESTONE'.

I always enjoy finding out about others hobbies - and photography is one hobby that permits this in that we often see images of said hobbies.

Re: My Weekend Secret

Top talent Patchwork. Really like the paintings of both the vehicles and the animals. The Staffie looks just perfect.
Being somewhat a transport buff (through occupation) these paintings and photos capture the feel of the vehicle for me. There are some fantastic ones available/viewable through the London Transport Museum. And if you haven't been up to the depot museum at Acton I'd thoroughly recommend getting on one of the open days.

As for the photos that Boris bus is a nice contrast to the Routemaster.

Good stuff. I hope you made it out to Malta before they replaced all the wonderful old buses there (I believe that happened last year).

Thanks John - the sheep were a bit of a challenge - not many straight edges.

Thanks Al_koholik - in the past I've paid a number of visits to the Acton Depot for their Models weekend. I've not been to the LT Museum at Covet Garden since it was last refurbished.

I visited Malta in 1996 and saw some wonderful old vehicles. I thought it was great that each bus had a Madonna near the entrance, and that the locals all prayed to it as they boarded. I asked someone what side of the road they drive on in Malta to which they replied - "The shady side".

Thanks for looking.

Paul

Bedford had a motto - "You See Them Everywhere". Lovely distinctive vehicles. Like Malta I've only been to Cyprus once but was very taken with the buses and their roof racks carrying all kinds of goods and chattels.

All the good stuff is at Acton! But if you ever do find yourself at the museum, drop me a PM and I can fill you in on some more detail/come and show you some good bits. Else at Acton I can show you some of the finer points of the rolling stock that we have up there.

Re: My Weekend Secret

Hello Paul,

Super site, with a fantastic collection of work. The Maidstone commission caught my eye, and clearly was enjoyed by the owner as per the comments.

Inspiring work from a genuine talent, thank you for the link.

Best wishes...........Alan

Wow! Some cracking stuff there! I worked at Leyland Motors during the time of the Atlantean and Tiger Cub, as well as the classic trucks. Nostalgia rules!
