Re: Boris Gate

I see that the BBC are putting on a tribute to Boris' efforts this evening. They are showing "La La Land".

Perhaps it should be 'Lie, Lie Land'.

I think most people appreciate and accept the fact that it's "open season" on Boris and in most respects a situation of his own making.

The trouble is however, none of the jibes, criticisms, name calling and fun poking solves or even helps the situation we now find ourselves in.

I have yet to see anyone in Government, Parliament, the EU, or anywhere else, offer a viable solution to this awful mess, other than remaining or crashing out with no deal.

Maybe there simply is no viable solution acceptable to Boris, the EU and all concerned in which case this abominable fiasco with all it's repercussions seems destined to continue for a very long time.

Re: Boris Gate

It's unlikely that any solution that involves leaving the EU can be found without reigniting the Troubles. It's a pretty much impossible task. Whether we Leave or Remain a lot of people are going to be very annoyed at the very least. If we leave a lot of rich Tories are going to get a whole lot richer while the rest of us get a whole lot poorer; if we remain the extra tax raised through the new EU anti-tax avoidance rules can be spent on useful public services.

Re: the letter which Boris may be obliged to write:

The Meghan Markle legal action is based on the principle that the copyright of a letter is retained by the author.

So, Boris can send a letter and insist that he has the copyright and doesn't have to show anyone. Anyone receiving it must not show anyone either.

Re: Boris Gate

Here is a draft of his letter.

Dear EU
I am obliged to ask for an extension which I don't really want.
Even if an extension is granted we're not going to pay any more money to
the EU so we'll be staying for free.
We will be sending Dom personally to all meetings and you know what he's like.
Regards,
Boris

Re: Boris Gate

In the last 24 hours, I heard someone say that the EU has changed so much since we voted to leave, and intends to keep changing in the same direction, that the EU we will leave will not be the one we voted to leave.

Perhaps we need another referendum for the current version?

There is no doubt that the present government has made a complete and utter balls up of the whole Brexit process, and I for one would agree that the Brexit referendum should never have been held in the first place.

But we are where we are, and I would urge everyone on all sides to be very, very careful what they wish for. Things could be so much worse.
