Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I think this should be moved to the Telephoto lens session as it discusses the recently announced lens.

Apart from this "35 mm equivalent" comparison which irritates me, I agree that the 150-400 F/4.5 looks like a compelling offering. I know from experience that sharp results can already be consistently achieved at 1/30s with the 300 F/4 handheld with acceptable yield, from what I have read the EM1.X IBIS has some improvements over the EM1.1/EM1.2 so we could imagine handheld operation at 1/30s. Maybe 1/15s if we stretch. I doubt 1/8s is realistic but future will tell.

I also see they have provided the lens with loops to fit lens strap which is a good thing as I suspect the weight would push the scale above 2kg.

It sure is a nice looking lens the sooner it comes out the better

I see your point, Tord, but this thread is only partially about the lens and mainly about the camera.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

No worries. I just thought that the previous post, referring to the blog where the lens is praised would belong to for instance this discussion

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

In the USA it’s quoted as Feb 25th. Here they just say ‘late’ Feb. I did hear somewhere that it would be around the 22nd here. It’s a short month, so it won’t be long!

Rob.
It was announced on the 24th Jan, but I don't think that is the release date
in Feb though.

Adobe Camera Raw has been updated to include the EM1X.

I guess the production firmware hasn't been out for long and people are busy testing in the background. It should be available to end users in the next two weeks so we should see reports soon.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Can anyone confirm whether you can you use the ND and Hi-Res modes with a manual non-Olympus/PRO lens? I've had a quick look through the E-M1x manual and it doesn't stipulate that you do - if I've read it correctly.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

The High Resolution feature works with my Panasonic 100-400mm on the Em1 ii, so would assume it would work on the X. Not sure what the ND feature is...………..

I doubt the two can be done at the same time.

The manual rules that out on page 211, but not the question posed.

From the internet I have found the following regarding the mk2 which one imagines may apply to the x...

"I have the OM-D E-M1 II, and as far as I can tell, High Res Shot (HRS) can be used with any lens, provided you use some common sense. I have used HRS with a Samyang 7.5 fisheye lens, an OM 500 f8 mirror lens and an adapted (EF) Sigma 10-20 lens, among others. Because of the way HRS works, I try to keep shutter speeds as high as possible. The longer the exposure, the greater the chance of movement in the scene or camera vibration. I would limit apertures to f8/f11 even with a legacy lens, as diffraction will rob you of image sharpness above this, and sharpness is one of the reasons to use HRS after all."
