Santa and Image Stabilisation

I put this image up here because while I do not hold back from criticising some aspects of the E-system (the sensor and noise handling being the foremost), I am always, always singing the praises of the in-body image stabilisation. I note the subject comes up quite a bit on this forum too.

Here is one from last night. It is a rough photo and technically not good, though I like the composition, subject and theme and it has that old 'Woolworths Christmas card' look. But take a look at the EXIF. The scene was not still or posed, and was in natural light - or rather, dark. Illumination was from a shop-front behind me. The 12-60 was wide open and the ISO was 800. This image was shot hand-held at 1/4 second! The IS is truly, truly excellent and I have come to love that little shudder the camera gives on powering down, to calibrate it.

Please feel free to post other (better!) IS examples in this thread.

Far from looking like "Santa", although he always has a sack of toys for us to pay with...

I totally agree with you about the brilliance of IS. This was taken within seconds of Ian handing me the new E-520. I inserted my card, switched it on, held it up and pressed the button. The remarkable thing is the shutter speed is 1/5th of a second. Forget everything else that is wrong with this image. That you can read the words on the sign is amazing.

Both shots show that the IS in Olympus DSLRs is worth it's weight in - err - Euros?
