Monitor problem

Can anyone advise please? I get an intermittent vertical turquoise line on my 24" Dell monitor. It's always in the same place and appears randomly. Is it likely to be a monitor problem (no doubt expensive) or the video card (no doubt cheaper)?

I had one. Used the "Chat" and Dell replaced it the next day

Re: Monitor problem

Check all the plugs and sockets to the monitor, check that the graphic card has not got loose. Does the line occur predictably ie at power on, or after a certain amount of time or running a specific operation on the machine ie switching to a specific application.

Re: Monitor problem

Thanks for those ideas. The problem arises on start up and the line goes after a varying time so it could be a heat related issue.

I've checked the card and connections and will see what happens next.

Re: Monitor problem

Can you borrow a graphic card and swap in to see if the problem changes.

I had a similar but different problem due to a cooked graphic card, the air cooling channels were totally blocked with caked on dust.

Re: Monitor problem

Dustwise it doesn't look too bad as I hoover it from time to time. I'm hoping a bit of pushing and shoving on the connectors etc has solved the problem. I've just had to switch it on and off a few times whilst updating USB drives and it seems OK.

Re: Monitor problem

I updated the video card driver and that made no diffeence. However the line disappears after about ten minutes so heat looks a likely cause.

Re: Monitor problem

Just a simple thought, do you have a second monitor you could try?
