Re: A Gothic Thought

A wonderful image.

clearly well thought out, constructed, and executed.

If I was going to offer something it would be nice to see some highlight on the hair. (A reflector or back light) Just to create some distance from the background.

I might just add you are by far a better photographer than I so I really have no place to give a critique. Oh boy I wish I was that good!

PS: did you use anything to modify the light from the FL50r

Thanks ever so much for the feedback, I might be able to pull back some highlight in the hair, as I think my processing has darkened that area. The orginal photo had a quite even exposure, thank you I'll have a go at that

and dont be silly, its all a learning game

Yes I had a shoot through umbrella to soften the light. I dodged and burned lots of things in the image though to put the emphasis on the face

Re: A Gothic Thought

Steven,

Hi, As said very well composed, great location, great detail in the model, great make up, costume . I think it's excellent.

The only thing that I would play with is that natural light, the setting has been cartoonised a little by your treatment (which is probably what I would do) But the natural light is too real, and I would be tempted to colour fill the light with the same colour as say.. her lipstick or bodice. Or make the natural light more defined and converting into beams of light fading as they enter the foreground.

Or maybe go a little less with the burning, keeping it real!

It,s not a criticism, just an alternate view... there is no wrong or right someone said to me, and on this shot it,s a matter of taste and your personal choice.

I really like it, and wish I had shot it.............VWD.

Regards...Alan

Thanks for the comments and feedback.

My problem lately is that I am getting heavy handed in photoshop and losing the realism altogether and I cant seam to get out of the habit either, when I take an image now I vision what I will do with it later, even when I show the subject on the back of the camera, I say "Ignore that as it wont look like that in the end" ha ha

One thing I have learn't though is that even if I want to do all these effects, I have to have a good exposure to start with to get the best results out of the image

Re: A Gothic Thought

The above lady Lisa, wasnt even my main subject, she was the make up artist and I just got a few quick grab shots of her after the main subject. The above ended up being my favorite out of the shoot, but sssssh

This is what I was aiming for on the day, again had the look in mind before I pressed the shutter

Re: A Gothic Thought

Steven,

Second image needs nothing, it's brilliant... you are a man with good vision. Love the isolation of the subject, she really pops in this image, and those colours.....

Excellent.....

Re: A Gothic Thought

That is a great image!

I really like the HDR effect on this type of image it builds real impact.

Something you may have not noticed there is a green and blue spots half way down on the right. They just catch the eye and I just seem to look at them. A small clone out would be ideal as it dose distract a tiny bit.

If I had commissioned that image I would be delighted.

Re: A Gothic Thought

Love them both but the second is better, the gothic lady does blend into the dark background a bit
