Who knows the best deal for the Sigma Bigma 50-500mm?

Hi All

I am starting to look around for the Sigma Bigma 50-500mm lens and am wondering if anyone has come across any super deals.

The best I can find isn't what I think is the best you could find... fancy helping me out...?

Re: Who knows the best deal for the Sigma Bigma 50-500mm?

The best I've seen is warehouseexpress.co.uk at 728! Not exactly a good deal. No one seems to be reducing it much Perhaps as are at the end of a Sigma lot (as the only make them in short runs, switching between diff manufacturers). However they are going for approx £500 in the US. Might be worth talking to Kerso or even arlingtoncamera to see what they would charge (the latter in case you dont know is a USA company but they are happy to ship to the UK).
Good hunting!
Phil

Might be worth checking the guarantee status - as Sigma is reputed to have some issues with initial quality control.

As I posted in a previous thread, SRS in Watford have/had a second-hand but unused 'Bigma' for 629.

Re: Who knows the best deal for the Sigma Bigma 50-500mm?

John,

I received a quote yesterday from our friend in Scotland (Ian Kerr). It was:

Hi Peter, Thanks for your enquiry.
Prices away from Ebay are:

50-500mm 590 & 20
All lenses have 1 year International warranty.

Yes, I too have been thinking about it ever since those recent images were posted

I have yet to get clearance from 'she who be obeyed'. Any suggestions for my opening line with her?

John,

I am sorry too. I am not offended by your comments and cannot see why you think I might be.

Interesting as your suggestion might be, I am not sure that it will work to secure permission. I shall have to think of other lines.

I note that you too are more interested in th Bigma.

So easy to misinterpret the written word eh Peter... I just wanted to make sure all was OK that's all, glad it is.

Oh yes... I am most certainly considering the Bigma, I have seen some superb images taken with this camera. Not too many with an Oly camera though, most were on Canikons - but I know the E-3 is capable of superb performance and I am sure the lens is up to scratch. So it's a combination of the classic triumvirate partnership eh... camera, lens and user...

I am really tempted to purchase the lens before I should do so, so if you happen to come up with a winning line for da' boss, please be sure to let me know so I can use it too yeah

Remember John, we have a promise of more images to come with the Olympus cameras. I agree even the Canon devotees seem willing to jump ship from their L series lenses to the Bigma. The interesting thing is that the 70-300 + ec14 arrive at the same f-stop as the Bigma but the Bigma adds a further 75mm in focal length. Also the Bigma would create a useful overlap with the 12-60 lens. It would mean of course me selling the 70-300 as it would be redundant. See, I am trying to develop a convincing line......

Re: Who knows the best deal for the Sigma Bigma 50-500mm?

Peter and John

I too was very impressed by the Bigma pictures and may persuade myself to get one. I wonder if Kerso would be able to get a better price himself from Sigma if we made a buying commitment for 3?

I had previously asked him for a price on the 2.0 teleconverter but I am worried about the loss of two stops on the 50-200 which isn't always a positive focus lock even now. I would love to find a supplier with all of the options to try side by side rather than working on rumour and reviews. Perhaps a huge get together could be planned to try things with a willing supplier.

Having read Peter's current thought that he might sell the 70-300 I do worry about seeing the Bigma as replacing anything else as to me it is a specialist use extra lens. I would only pack it when I was going to be wanting to use it.

Peter

If I can get the money (that I am expecting) by the end of this month, I am looking to get the "Bigma"

Re: Who knows the best deal for the Sigma Bigma 50-500mm?

With regard to selling my 70-300mm if I bought the Bigma... this really would depend on the quality of results I was able to obtain with the Bigma. It has taken me a few months now to be able to get somewhat consistent results with the 70-300mm, but I am extremely happy with what I manage to get it to produce. i am certain that more experienced photographers would be able to get even better results from it, but at least I am happy with my results.

If I was able to achieve the same output from the Bigma - given the learning curve I'd have to go through, then and only then would I consider selling my 70-300mm.

Isn't it funny how one strikes up a loving relationship ones gear... sad eh...
