Camouflage ?

I don't normally take much notice of helicopters around Colchester. Colchester Garrison is home to 16 Air Assault Brigade and RAF Chinooks and Army Air Corps Apaches from Wattisham in Suffolk (part of 16 AAB) are regular visitors for training. However a bright flash of yellow from this Chinook made it immediately visible to the naked eye.

The aircraft was on its way into the Fingringhoe ranges just south of Colchester and, from a check on Google Earth will have been about 2.5 miles away. Hence a 90% crop and a lot of atmospheric distortion, but I did get a shot.

The "paint job" appears to be a version of 16 AAB's new (since late last year) insignia here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16_Air...:16AAB_new.svg

How the pilots manage to fly with a load like that swinging underneath I'll never know.

There were actually two aircraft flying. The second one didn't have the flashy "paint job" but made up for it by carrying a Landrover and its trailer ready to roll as soon as it hits the ground.

Taken with the E-M5 and 75-300mm.

Thanks for looking.

she looked at me and said "It's official. I hate your camera. It's just so amazing and perfect I want one!"

Re: Camouflage ?

Looks like you was in the right place at the right time to enjoy a dramatic, free air display!
