My first attempts at BIF

Hi there everyone!

Being very bored watching my children engrossed with crabbing, I decided to try and capture some of the sea birds flying round hoping for a spare crab or two (or the bacon we were using as a lure for the crabs). I had taken my 50mm Macro lens in the hope of getting some images of the crabs, and had the EC-20 in my bag as well so I didn't need to get too close. Here is my first attempt:-

A few days later, after we had returned from our holidays, we tried crabbing again, this time I had taken my E-1 and sigma 105mm, again to try and get a picture of the crabs. Given that I am a hopeless beginner, and Oly cameras are no good at BIF, and that my lens is to short and the resolution too low, I don't think that these are too bad as a starting point, but all advice gratefully received:-

Thank you for looking,

Cheers,

Ralph.

Like the first shot the second bird makes the shot for me.

Well, these are all good, but No 1 is better than good. The lighting and posture of the main bird are superb and, as Ed says, the second OOF bird is perfectly juxtapositioned and really makes the shot.

Re: My first attempts at BIF

Thanks guys! The first shot is my favourite too, because of the oof bird in the background, but it was only there by chance rather than design as my tracking skills are just not that good yet. Also the light was better that day, it was distinctly stormy the second time we were out, hence the water resistant E-1!

Cheers,

Ralph
