XZ-1 vs. XZ-2 with an Eye-Fi card

Hi. I really want to be able to use an Eye-Fi card in a small pocketable camera. For a while I was using one in the XZ-1, but when I got a new iPhone, it doesn't work any more, the card and the phone can rarely connect.

I was just reading about the XZ-2 which looks really cool, and the specification for this specifically states it is Eye-Fi compatible. this confused me, as I've used an Eye-Fi card in the XZ-1.

Does anyone know whether eth XZ-2 is optimised for Eye-Fi in a different way, and whether it would help the connectivity issues I have between the card and iPhone?

Not sure about the zx-2 optimisation but have heard conflicting stories regards the eye-fi cards. They seem to be a hit and miss affair with regards to connecting to different gadgets. There was a glitch with some Apple phones where users were blocking signals if they were held in a certain fashion. Before you splash the cash, have you tried connecting with some friends gadgets as it may be down to the units you currently own?

I've notice Eyefi doesn't list the XZ-2 on their website it might be worth getting in touch with their support to clarify the situation.

Hope this helps.

Re: XZ-1 vs. XZ-2 with an Eye-Fi card

I tried it it the PEN E-PL3, and it worked there. I would have prefered the XZ-1, as I like the camera better than the Pen (for this bring-camera-everywhere project), but the Pen will have to do.

Sad that the PenPal desn't work with iPhone.

Re: XZ-1 vs. XZ-2 with an Eye-Fi card

Well, I started on the project today and the PEN E-PL3 won't do mainly because of the lens. The DOF on the kit 14-42 mm lens is not satisfactory, and I need to be able to do macro. First of all, the camera is fiddly, and focusing on the screen is difficult, I just can't see it properly even though manual focus is possible, and the autofocus chooses the wrong things when trying to focus close. Camera is too bulky for the project when I have the EVF attached.

Also, I have NO desire to invest in better lenses for micro-4/3, if I am going to invest in a different system, I will be going Nikon or Canon anyway and a proper DSLR. So building up on a half-way system like the PENs is not going to happen before I'm too old to carry DSLRs.

I read more on the specs of the XZ-2 and it IS Eye-Fi compatible. http://www.olympus.co.uk/site/en/c/c...fications.html

The question is when will it be on the market!?

There is so much going on in the way of professional-level compact cameras that I will check out other brands for a change, however the IQ of the XZ-2 is looking promising, and I've always been faithful to Olympus before. Maybe not this time, though. Maybe other brands even have a GPS...

Re: XZ-1 vs. XZ-2 with an Eye-Fi card

If Eye-Fi worked sporadically on the XZ-1, then the XZ-1 must be Eye-Fi compatible. Indeed Olympus confirm it is: http://olympus.co.id/products/compact/x_series/xz-1

So, who's to say that the XZ-2 will work any better for you, unless, as you say, there is some enhancement to the Eye-Fi electronics?

Have alook here too, at a similar XZ-1 Eye-Fi problem: http://forums.eye.fi/viewtopic.php?t=3981

If I were you, I'd phone Olympus Service and have a chat about your XZ-1 problems and ask if the XZ-2 will resolve them.

You may want to look at the new Toshiba FlashAir wireless LAN cards that Olympus are supporting.
