confetti idea

Hi Everyone

I photographed a wedding yesterday and when I came to doing the standard confetti shots, an idea came to mind that I hadnt tried before

I asked the Bride to simply throw some confetti overself and keep her arm out, she of course looked at me a bit strange, as if why? and I said as usual "trust me it will look good" please let me know if its a good idea or something not to do again or even worse dont include it in my proofs for this job

Re: confetti idea

Unfortunately no, she closed her eyes all the way through do you think that would look better as I can make sure of that next time

Re: confetti idea

I think it's fun and don't see any reason not to include it

Yes eyes open would be better, but she'd got paper fluttering into her eyes so for many people that would be hard to achieve

B&W does notthing to improve, and in fact quite the reverse IMHO as it's the colours that make the fun

Regards
Andy

Re: confetti idea

Its a shame you have not got one with her eyes open as I think it would have made it a better picture. All in all it is a very good, creative and original idea, but I also think it is much better in colour than mono, after all the confetti is very colourfull

Re: confetti idea

I think it's a great idea but it is a shame about the eyes being closed, I have to disagree about the colour v B&W for my money the B&W wins, it's a lovely conversion and adds a timeless classic feel to the shot, I guess you would have to decide if it fitted in with the 'feeling' of the day and of course the other shots you decide to go with.

Re: confetti idea

I too think this is a great idea, Steve. May I suggest something that I would consider could improve the image no end?

If you find a way within Lightroom to separate the bride and confetti, from the background. I had a quick go at this by using target adjustments to the background colours, and adding a vignette. It would need a bit more work, but I think it improves the image a lot.

Happy to post, only with your permission.

Re: confetti idea

I think it works very well, and favour the view that the colour version works better. As a small nit-pick there is no confetti in the lower half of the picture, so I wonder if it would benefit from a slight crop of the bottom (the picture's, not the bride's ) or shooting just a little later.

Ciao ... John

Okies Steve...

This is what I came up with after 10 mins or so editing. I used target adjustment selection in HSL panel to darken the background colours (luminance), as well as increasing saturation in confetti and a few other tweeks that add to the effect.

Hope you like...

Re: confetti idea

I think the bride might prefer a cropped version.

Re: confetti idea

On the B&W v colour issue; something I've done with previous confetti shots is to do the conversion as an adjustment layer in photoshop, which then allows one to keep the confetti in colour.

I've done a quick, crude one attached below
