I think they have another one at one of their other stores but it's more money on phone now so can't check but you are covered by distance selling rules. So I'm sure you get a cool off period

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

I've been tempted by that lens all week, but decided not to go for it in the end. I'm surprised you didn't like the look of it as it's stated to be 5* quality and it looked pretty good to me. If it's the white spots on the lens front you were worried about then I thought they were light reflections from the shop lights. If you want I could go down and have a look at it for you and check it out. You'd have to trust my judgement though. Oh and of course I might always change my mind and buy it myself . No only joking. If you want me to go and take a look it would have to be Tuesday after work as I'm going to be late home tomorrow.

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

I currently have the Lumix 12-35 which is a nice lens but wanted something wider for landscapes, also considering the Olympus 9-18

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

As Phill says, I'm sure the white spots are the shop lights, but they are pretty lousy photos.

There's no filter thread, as the hood is fixed. There are various botches that people have done, but I've never tried. It's a lovely, great old lens, but quite a handful, particularly if you are using on M4/3 with MMF-3.

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

I have on I use on my E-M1 and it does overbalance it a bit but is quite comfortable to use. One problem is if you want to use it on a tripod there is a lot of strain on the camera tripod socket.

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

I had one an age ago and found it just too large and heavy for regular use: image quality was wonderful, though.

I currently have the Panasonic m4/3 version which is an order of magnitude smaller, quite a bit lighter and also can't take filters without fiddling with making your own to fit behind the rear element. It's solid and silky to use, and actually feels like a Pan-Leica lens in handling = nice. Image quality is good (not quite as good as the 4/3 version, but certainly worth the cost one pays for this lens), there being a little CA at the edges especially wide open (but easily removed in PP). It's also occasionally subject to some odd purple flaring in very challenging sidelighting, but individual versions seem to vary a lot in this - mine's pretty good.

I have used the 9-18 in the past, and sold it to buy the m4/3 7-14 second-hand: this as I recall gives a very slightly less sharp image at the zoom extremes and at full aperture, but I never had a problem with CA and it is exceptional value. It's also extremely light and compact (stunningly so, and wonderful for travel), but the handling isn't as good - it certainly doesn't feel such a high-quality bit of kit as either of the 7-14s.

Finally, Olympus have a Pro 7-14 on their development line: I would anticipate this will be a tad larger and heavier than the panny m4/3, one hopes it won't have the flare problem, it should be as sharp as hell and (pretty pleeeeze) it may have a built-in filter option... I'm expecting £999 on launch, though!

LCE are highly reputable and I've bought several s/h lenses from them in the past. They are staffed by enthusiasts. I'd have no concerns over there being an un-described issue with the lens, or with them taking it back if you weren't satisfied in any way. That's a good price, coming with that provenance.

I hope that helps!

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

I have 7-14mm. I've not used it for a couple of years, but would be loath to part with it. It's a wonderful piece of optics just to hold and look at!

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

I use mine with my E-M1. I wish it had a tripod collar so I could use my Sunsniper strap with it to balance the combo a bit better. Superb piece of glass and I took mine on a recent cruise to northern Spain just to use photographing the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The forthcoming m43rds version may be smaller but I could not justify it considering I don't use the one I already have very much. I think it will be much more than 999, more like 1300.

Re: 7-14mm Lens Wanted

I think you are right about the price Dave. I often use mine with the grip on the E-M1. It balances up better, and I often use it in portrait mode.
