Shopping

One of the many I didn't submit to the Christmas challenge....

shoppers in Kingston. I chose to take against bright sunlight for the added contrast and drama.

Re: Shopping

That's nicely done. Care to add a bit on the exposures and how you went about it

Re: Shopping

I think you should do more with it, I played a bit with curves so the figures became almost graphical black silhouettes which was very appealing. (to me )
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Shopping

Thanks. Though the sun was low and bright it was not too strong. I had the 50-200 on but this one was at the lower end of that range. To avoid flare I stood in the shade of a wall to take the photo. Shutter priority at 1/200 and ISO at 100, centre-weighted metering because this was one of many shots on the go (not ideal for this one maybe but no time to chimp). The camera chose F7.1 which gave lots of depth. Not much PP - fiddling in Camera raw and I can't recall exactly what I did but it would have been adjusting exposure, contrast and blacks and reducing 'clarity' a bit (which gives the shimmery effect). I was prepared to lose highlight detail in exchange for the backlit haloes and I liked the shaded areas of pavement where the pattern of the paviours shows.

With the challenge in mind I was after the archetypal sweet old lady burdened with Christmas shopping bags but of course you can never find one when you want one. Nevertheless I had some street fun with that lens and the 12-60 that day:

and 'shopping in the recession':

Re: Shopping

Great shot in tough light. It really captures the hustle of the moment.
