Cokin ND filters

I bought one of their sets of ND filters and have used them a few times with success..

In between placing Christmas on-line orders I've been looking at a couple of recent photos where I've stacked all three filters and there's a noticeable colour shift/cast towards the pinker end...

Is this normal?

Easily removed in Lightroom, but quite a surprise non-the-less...

Re: Cokin ND filters

Are they grads or full NDs? Some Cokin grads are called Grey to avoid any claim to be neutral. Some will give a cast with a single filter, most often magenta.

Re: Cokin ND filters

Full NDs and magenta sums it up nicely!

Re: Cokin ND filters

This is normal though the latest high end Nuances claim to eliminate the colour cast when stacking.

My 10 stop nuances is really neutral.

I switched to Formatt Hitech which are much better but I use the Nuance with them too.

Shooting RAW will help with removing the cast. The Cokin plastic gilter holders leave a lot to be desired too.

Re: Cokin ND filters

In the film era I borrowed a colour transmission densitometer and tested a retailers stock of Cokin grey grads to find the most neutral light and dark versions. A couple of years later Formatt came out with their version to fit the Cokin P holder so I got a set of those. Then a few years later they came out with soft and hard edge versions so I added a couple of those.
