Dual battery charger

Hi

Does anyone know of a dual battery charger for an EM1? I have had a look at a few but I see feedback that they don't charge the original batteries?

Im want 2 extra third party batteries and a dual charger

Any help appreciated

Re: Dual battery charger

Hahnel do one called the Pro Cubewhich comes with dedicated charger plates for different types of battery, including the BLN-1. It's a bit pricey. I have one and quite like it, others' experiences are varied - I think John "jdal" tried it and wasn't impressed. I will dig out the link to the Hahnel page and my older thread about it later.

Re: Dual battery charger

Here we are. Hahnel's page for the Pro Cube:

http://www.hahnel.ie/index.cfm?page=...id=145&pId=145

My earlier thread about it:

http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=35511

Please note the caveat at the start of the thread:

I feel a little bit guilty posting about a competitor's product on Olympus's forum. But battery management is an area which I feel that Oly are still not addressing well. The charge indicators in the cameras seem pretty random and the chargers give no indication of battery state except to say when it's full. The Hahnel chargers have a percentage charge indicator which seems fairly accurate and I find it very useful - I have been using them for ages in preference to Oly chargers for this reason.

Ciao ... John

Re: Dual battery charger

Having had a charger blow up on me I got to thinking about what I would do if I was on holiday and my charger stopped working. So I invested in two rather than a dual.

Re: Dual battery charger

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look into them

I glad there is feedback that the expro ones charging the oly batteries as this is what I originally looked at, but I'm sure it mentioned somewhere that they didn't charge them

I will still carry my original one for backup :-)

The original expro batteries couldn't be charged in the Olympus charger. Not sure about the latest version.

The Olympus battery BLN-1 for E-M5 (and E-M1 & E-P5) was chipped. The Olympus battery charger BCN-1 would only charge a chipped battery. The early Expro BLN-1 replacements were not chipped so you needed the Expro charger. The later expro batteries, notably the white ones (and now some of the grey ones), are chipped and will charge in the BCN-1.

The Expro charger will charge chipped and non chipped batteries - I suspect that it just ignores the chip and the BLN-1s are not clever enough to reject charging by a charger that is not looking for a chipped battery. There was a lot of discussion at the time and the general thought was that the chipping was actually a safety feature to allow the charger to monitor the battery temperature to make sure the battery did not get too hot and explode and is part or increased world wide safety standards. I never saw any of this confirmed though.

I do not believe the BLS-5 for E-M10 and earlier PENs is chipped.
