Re: Capture One Pro 8....

I'm considering it having used LR and never felt totally in tune with it. Seen several articles comparing Capture One with LR so am swayed by their arguments. It's just the price at 223 Euros which makes me hesitate. And this is the first time my husband who is a Sony user has a something photographic that I envy - he can get the basic Capture one for free and upgrade to Sony only Pro version for 23 euros! I've taken out the free trial while I decide.

Re: Capture One Pro 8....

Claire, Hi I was privy to much discussion with OlyPaul (who, what he does not know about p/p s/w, is probably not worth knowing ) led to the decision to buy a licence for CO Pro 6 and have since taken upgrades to 8

It is a great tool and check the euro/£ exchange rate because it was very favourable recently (when I purchased a few large £'s items with great currency reduction) in real price paid terms

Its not so much about the price paid, as what it can do for you ?

Other p/p s/w may be cheaper but can they do the same for you ? if not ... its not even cheap, its expensive throw out rubbish

Re: Capture One Pro 8....

Good point Chevvy. I guess I'm just a little jealous that Sony users get it for such a bargain price ! Will continue with the free trial and expect I will buy. I really don't enjoy working on photos as I spend my working day on a laptop. I try and get images right in camera but sometimes I need the raw to tweak so have no choice. Glad to hear you use it.

Yeah But Sony users need to use it more as they get less camera .... from their manufacturer than a ONE owner ...

True! Wouldn't swop my ONE for a NEX nor even their full frame cameras. Their lenses are not as good as Oly

I think the free trial of Capture One Pro lasts for 60 days Claire so you will have plenty of time to explore it's capabilities.
My history with Capture One goes back to version 3.7 (if I remember rightly) and in that time I have compared the output with other perhaps more well known options on many occasions.
In that time my experience has been that to my eye the output from Capture One is more pleasing and certainly more detailed, it excels at being able to extract that little bit extra from a RAW file.

I will totally agree with that as seen in this before (OOC JPEG) & after from the RAW file (as shown in another thread, but with first attempt for an output).

WOW ! Ross that is REAL remarkable especially as these are just little tiny, compressed JPEGS

I have to change my "set up" for CO7 Pro because somehow, its set to create a shed load of folders everytime I upload some images and edit them on this laptop ... but I need to study Installation and have rather a bit too much on, just now to focus on that !

Sorry, I didn't mean to over rate the software that much. The second image is the processed RAW file through CO8 showing just how much can be recovered from the RAW when the resulting JPEG is not so good. It appears it is doing better than CO7.

Presumably Chevvy you are using it in session mode rather than the LR-like catalogue mode.

Ah but Claire you can use "OM" Zuiko lenses on them

I have recently gone back to film photography in a big way ( just me, I prefer film, well not "just me" actually ) however the thought of using my 21 F3.5, 50 F1.2 & F2 Macro plus the 100 F2 Zuiko's on an A7 is sort of tempting.

That is very impressive. As I've not updated LR I shall be needing to use CO on my raw files. Hope I manage the same success. Thank you.
