A little smoke and mirrors

You might recognize this image form Foto fair.

On looking thought the set I was a bit miffed with the composition of this shot. I had two frames, 1 was poor in my opinion and fit for the bin and the second was just passable

Shot 1

The loco was not far enough forward but just passable.

Shot 2

The signal box was right up on the edge of the frame and had to much foreground, just horrid but the loco was in a better position.

Shot 3

Is a blend of the too images to give in “my opinion” an improved composition. the blend was made in photoplus X5

I am happy for you to tell me I am wrong!

Re: A little smoke and mirrors

Combining the two images has improved it greatly in my opinion.

Could it be improved more? Yes I think it could but that was not the question.

I think that reducing brightness a little in the foreground snow and bringing out some more detail of the loco and a little local contrast increase would make a already very good image a little better.

For your consideration bearing in mind I am working from a low res web image, just a subtle difference thtat hopefully you like.

Re: A little smoke and mirrors

Good shout!

Reducing the brightness in the foreground gives the whole image better balance and giving the loco more detail helps keep your eyes entertained on the main subject.

One thing I have spotted is that the blending of the two images has been missed in the bottom right and there is a hard line. I was so focused on getting the steam right I missed it.

I will go back to the RAW file put it all together

Thank you for your input
