November light

In Vestfold, near Helgeroa, there is a UNESCO cultural heritage site and a nature beauty spot called Mølen. It's a favourite site for photography and bird spotting, with lovely seascape light and rounded boulders. Sadly, we arrived there a little bit too late today to really work the light, so I had to concentrate on just one thing - water movement around the waterfront boulders, as we arrived just as the warm golden light had left the boulders further up, but the water was still colourful.

I'd looked forward all day to photographing the boulders in the low winter light, and also do something with the old grave mounds, but I'll just have to go back for more. It's been there for ages, it'll be there for ages more. I can repeat...

They seem to loose a little saturation when imported to the forum, the originals are here: http://csspikkerud.zenfolio.com/p64617191
(There are some from December last year too, we don't have snow yet this year )

Re: November light

Beautiful atmospheric images Cathrine, I can almost hear the lapping of the sea over the boulders. The exposure was perfect for capturing the movement of the waves. Number 4 is my favourite, the boulders almost look as if they have been painted in oils.

Funny you should mention oil... This beach was oiled a couple of years ago in the "Full City" accident ;-) Thankfully the place has been restored and is once again a pearl.

Those stones are slippery, though! I have a sore bum after slipping when setting up the tripod. Thankfully, I'm at that in-between age where my back side has aquired suitable cushioning, but I'm not too breakable yet

This one is probably the most "painted" of them all ;-)

Re: November light

You may well have called this set a 'Sea of Clouds'. How different your soft November light to ours.

Re: November light

They are all good but I really love that last one. Just magical I'd definitely put that on the wall.

Haha! Oz in November is something else entirely! Is is even possible to obtain shutter speeds below 1/2000 without pulling a bag over the camera?

Re: November light

A magnificent set, you certainly made good use of the remaining light when you eventually got there.

You are absolutely right about the shutter speed.
This month our temps are around 30C, by February it'll be in the 40C range - the light is so ferocious that I am not even bothering with photowalks.

Good to hear there are some drawbacks with your lovely climate. I went to Melbourne in November first time I visited. Loved it, but most of the pics are over-exposed :-) Pre-histogram film...
