The eastern view

The Snaar team is away from base! Uploaded from a hotel lounge: Here are some rushes from the east edge of britain. These are unprocessed jpegs, so I hope to tweak the DR and colour balance when I develop the raw files properly :-)

Southwold is lovely. The pier is great and weird. The town is great. The Swan Hotel has free wifi (thanks guys!)

There you go...

Normal service will be resumed quite soon..

The whole idea of a pier at Southwold is strange to me, during my childhood there was very little followed by none. Far more important were the boating lakes on the other side of the pier car park.

North of Southwold there used to be a number of small meers - probably very good for bird photography.

Then of course there is gun hill, and what I recall as a picturesque seamans reading room set back from it. The rowed ferry across the harbour to Walbleswick I believe boasts a female oarswoman running it now.

Last I heard there was some controversy about the brewery - as its recent success was making it move out of town to a new site.

Alas there is still no railway.

There is though a harbour Nick, whose entrance looks 'interesting' from the land. We have twice chickened out trying to get there from Aldeburgh because of a less than perfect weather forecast.
