Nissin Di466 Wireless Trigger help

I have the Nissin Di466 flash but it ONLY works when it is in view of the Olympus on camera flash.

I have a portrait assignment for my photography course and I do not want the on camera flash to fire as it blows out the subject.

To help I invested in a Pixel Pawn Wireless flash trigger.

I set the camera up as usual and the Olympus flash with optical view to the Nissin worked.

I swapped the Olympus flash for the wireless trigger etc but the Nissin doesn't work.

Both wireless triggers flash and both illuminate when the shutter is pressed but the flash does not fire.

I am starting to think all the problems I am having are to do with this Nissin flash.

Does anyone have any idea if this is a Nissin Di466 issue?

Can anyone recommend an alternative off camera flash? One that would work with my Olympus EM5 and the Pixel Pawn wireless triggers?

I am trying to spend as little as possible therefore a good value replacement flash would be much appreciated.

Help!

You don't really mention it, but I assume you have a wireless receiver attached to the Nissin flash? Is this what you mean when you say both wireless triggers flash?

Yes of course. The led on it is flashing in sync with the LED on the camera one when I press the shutter. I therefore know they are talking to one another but not triggering the flash.

Re: Nissin Di466 Wireless Trigger help

Tried taking the trigger off the camera and using the test button to try firing the flash? I'm trying to remember if the small E-M5 flash is a hotshoe connection? (Sure it is). You could also try that on the receiver.....

Yes - same thing happens - the flash wireless trigger led flashes but nothing happens to the flash (it does not fire).

I have tried all the flash settings on the back with no luck. It's working as it works with the Olympus on camera flash and when I press the "Pilot" button on the back of the flash.

Yeah, sounds very like faulty or Tx or Rx.... nothing worse than buying something new only to find it's not working. I use RF-603's myself and have never had any problems with them with various flashes.....

Re: Nissin Di466 Wireless Trigger help

So you think the triggers are the fault?

But both the indicators on each light when I press the shutter. I'd have thought the flash wasn't receiving the signal. Could this be an issue with the flash or definitely the triggers?

Did you try the removable Olympus camera flash on it (Not sure that would work anyway?) or can you beg, steal or borrow another flash?

Re: Nissin Di466 Wireless Trigger help

OK here goes...

When Olympus flash attached to camera the Nissin Fires as its optical link
Nissin does not work on the hot shoe of the Olympus
When triggers are attached the triggers flash together on shutter press but the Nissin does not fire
Without the camera - just using the triggers, the triggers LEDS flash but the Nissin does not fire
The Nissin attached to the hot shoe of a Nikon does fire
The Olympus flash cannot be tested with the triggers as it has a separate connector so I cannot connect it

So Nissin + Olympus ONLY fires with optical connection

Cannot test triggers with Nikon as triggers are Olympus/Panasonic

Re: Nissin Di466 Wireless Trigger help

Was the Nissin specified as Nikon fit when you bought it, as it probably won't fire on the olympus hotshoe if so, but aren't the triggers a universal fit using only the centre pin for firing the flash so should work on anything, apart from Sony maybe, as I believe they're different.

It does all seem to point to the Nissin hotshoe connection being incompatible with any kind of Olympus/Panasonic hotshoe, even moreso if the triggers are specifically for Oly/Pana fit.....

No it's an Olympus Panasonic micro four thirds fit.

The triggers are Olympus Panasonic.

Ok thanks. Need to find another flash to try!
