Printing with DSCL

No particular reason for this thread, but it's nice to point out when you get good service.

I ordered some prints from DSCL on Thursday night (actually early Friday morning...) with the standard Royal Mail delivery, including a few prints which the website says should take 3-7days - and they appeared at 9am Saturday morning. I really can't fault that.

Re: Printing with DSCL

I always find that the quality of prints from DSCL is excellent, too, and the prices are very reasonable.

Re: Printing with DSCL

I was thinking of using them myself.

But, and this is in general, not specifically DSCL, how does one calibrate from the screen to the print, if the printer is miles away? Can someone point me to a resource to explain how to do this, please.

If you haven't got a monitor calibrator then try this in the meantime

Yeah, I've got a spider (4 I think it is). It was the question of closing the loop, as it were.

Re: Printing with DSCL

When they offered Auto-Correction I got some great prints from DSCL. Sadly they stopped doing it and my first batch after that all came back dark. No doubt my fault, but with nearly 100 prints, an expensive mistake that drove me into buying a printer!

I'd suggest use a few (4 or 5 will do I should think.) photos, and edit them all to what you think is right, then re-edit them a stop brighter, and then a stop darker. Send them off and see what comes back. That should give you a good idea of what will come out in future.

Re: Printing with DSCL

Thanks for the heads up and advice byegad.

I've been thinking about a printer, but the choice is bewildering. If I go down that route I'd want a printer capable of both black and white and colour, at optimal running costs. Any suggestions, ie what did you get?

Re: Printing with DSCL

I have been looking at DSCL for direct printing on to aluminium -does anyone one have experience with this media? I have received some samples back from Whitewall and while understanding the finish is matte, the results are flat and lifeless.

Thanks

David
