EPL5 + new lens

I have just picked up a new 20mm f1.7 Mk.2 that was split from a kit, got it for a great price and compared to my original 20 it is a really nice solid metal lens.

I got this lens to keep on my EPL5 and took it out for it's first run yesterday, great performer that delivers nice images.

Here are two I grabbed:

Re: EPL5 + new lens

Two great shots to kick off your new combo.
I had the Mk1 version and it lived on my E-P1....now replaced by E-PL5 and 17mm f2.8 and 25mm f1.8.

Re: EPL5 + new lens

Hi there Ian!

Two great pictures, but I especially like the first - tell me did you get the effect by just reducing the saturation for everything but yellows or did you use layers and masks?

Cheers,

Ralph.

Re: EPL5 + new lens

Yes, I like these two. I was contemplating selling my EPL5 a little while back but seeing what the prices that they were fetching, I decided to keep it. I still love this body despite having the EM1. Paired with my 25mm f1.8 it is a reasonably small package. I am off on a mountain biking holiday in Spain next Thursday and it is going with me so that I can get some evening shots after the days riding.

That may be a little harsh and rather judgemental, Chevvy, but sadly I suspect it is also true. But if politicians cannot learn from history and respect those who died in the course of making it, then why should we expect anything different from our youth?

My personal opinion is that all world leaders should spend their holidays each year touring the WWI battlefields followed by a visit to Auschwitz. Then they should each write 1000 times, "We must not let this happen again."

Re: EPL5 + new lens

Thank you all for the nice comments.

When I got the EPL5 it came with the standard zoom and I got the 17mm f2.8 free (kit including free lens cost £449) so a good deal at the time.

I had always enjoyed the 20mm on my original Pany GF1 and found it a superb street lens so decided to replace it with the new version, especially at the price - I now have a very small EM5 lite with a great lens that fits in a pocket and delivers great IQ - I will now consider letting the 17 & 14-42 go as I do not see me using them ( I have a great compliment of lenses with the EM1 so cannot justify keeping any more.

I do my B&W conversions using Silver Efex Pro, it also allows me to easily bring back selective colour elements and to my thinking is one of the best B&W convertors out there.

Re: EPL5 + new lens

Interesting to see that the new version of the 20mm is actually an improvement. The original always had good IQ, but in my view was let down by slightly slow focus and a general "clunkiness".

Harsh and Judgmental = true

Nick often says, about his mothers favourite saying, "ooh! we are all going to hell in a handcart .." these days Nick adds " ... and its a HUGE handcart ... "

I doubt that this part of "History" is even taught [children could not read nor spell ouchwits - could they ?] as part of the National Curriculum these days - it is probably NOT PC to talk about the Wars and men shooting and killing each other with bare hands ; guns; canon; bombs from aircraft and ships as it may give the Youth ideas for World War III

We do not seem to learn ... en masse by our mistakes ... but I seem to find "what goes around, comes around, again and again ..." TRUE ! and a long time ago (in my 30's - although loving History) I got fed up with Elders bemoaning "the world not learning by past mistakes ..."

Now I am an Elder and realise that with so many years (past 30) under my belt ... what the elders were saying in my 30's is true then and today and probably shall be when my children and their children are 30+ years over 30 ... Thats why we do not read Newpapers or Horror Comics as my Dad called them me too now

As Private Faser said, to Coprl. Jones re Pikes stupidity "ay! we''ll all be doomed " ... in Dads Army

Re: EPL5 + new lens

Ooh, I love that 1st one.

Interesting that here in NZ there has been more interest in ANZAC day, with many younger people attending dawn services.

Re: EPL5 + new lens

Rosemary, there has been a lot of coverage of it in the news especially in relation to the Royal visit.
It is important that countries remember and children are educated in the history or we will never escape the vicious circle.
