A Beach on Harris

Hi guys,

Here is a panoramic photo I took on the Isle of Harris. Looking for any feedback on how to improve. It was made from 4 images @ 50mm with (I think) the 50-200mm.. may have been the 12-60 though, I will have to check when I am at my home PC tomorrow.

Thanks!

It's a nice pano. Now that you have the images joined, you might want to try a software graduated filter on the sky, to darken it a bit and bring out the clouds.

Re: A Beach on Harris

I would agree with Stephen.
I would also like to have seen a little more to the left and at the bottom.
You've certainly caught the colour of the water.
Nice to see a Harris beach looking South. They are usually looking North across Luskentyre.
This looks as if it might be from Hushinish at the end of the B887.

Perhaps if you had gone more to the right and used some of those rocks for some foreground interest?

Yes, a good suggestion from Stephen, also give the contrast a boost. Ialso agree with Duncan about including a little more on the left and bottom. Nevertheless, it's a lovely picture.

Re: A Beach on Harris

Gazza, I looked in and thought the clean white sand leading me in ... to the stunning aquamarine blue pool in the water ... was one of MY holiday shots on La Digue a few weeks ago !

WoW ! and this is SCOTLAND ?

I panned over to view the centre and right - still thinking this is in he Seychelles, from La Digue looking out towards the Islands of Felicte' and Praslin and Cocos !

Shame my screen is only ... 19" - this would be stunning printed on acrylic

An illusion that can only be maintained until you dip your toe in the water...

Re: A Beach on Harris

I could not resist this as its one of the places I hope to go sometime.
I made some adjustments in lightroom and photoshop.
Mainly selective colour balance and contrast. There maybe some slight colouration to the clouds but I thought it looked ok for a quick go.

Altering the contrast did however reveal you have some dirt on your sensor. If you alter the contrast on the sky you will notice this. I have cloned them out on this version.

Have a play with the photo you have and I'm sure you will get something good enough to frame from this.

Interestingly when I opened your photo up I could see lots more of it in the right hand side. I did not have a slider to move in explorer to view this in the photo you posted but it is there in the one I posted back....Strange.
Also something strange going on on top of the middle mountain.

Re: A Beach on Harris

Nice photo as others have suggested add some contrast etc selectively, here i my attempt in Photoshop making use of layers and layer masks to add contrast, detail and colour. hope you don't mind.

All the best.

Re: A Beach on Harris

The last rendering is the best but it definitiley needs more beach included, after all that is the title. Personally I find a lower point of view works well on beach/sea scapes and this would give more beach and less sea emphasising perspective which IMO is a essential part of this type of shot.

Regards

David
