Cool The E-420 and pancake have arrived

One problem with having two related sites is that duplication can occur!

Anyway - I have started a thread on the subject (I have a shiny new E-420 and 25mm pancake lens now, plus first impressions) over at Four Thirds User here:

http://fourthirds-user.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1624

If you have any questions, you can post them here or there - or even both

Ian

Re: The E-420 and pancake have arrived

By the way - I will do my best to attend the Digital Depot E-System day this weekend. I'll bring the E-420 along with the hope that I can try a Panasonic Leica Four Thirds lens on it. If you have one, or a Sigma lens, and you're going to the event, please let me know so I can arrange to meet up with you

Guess the Bigma would be out of the question. Might be difficult to handle on the E420.

Haven't had an opportunity to take any yet as the battery has been charging (the E-410 battery I had was practically flat as well).

Definitely some for tomorrow though.

If you are going and you don't mind bringing it

Re: The E-420 and pancake have arrived

The thing that I would appreciate would be some direct comparson shots taken on an E510 between the new pancake and (say) the 14-42 kit lens set at 25mm.

Not that it will make much difference as I am going to get the pancake almost whatever the results are.

Thanks

Roger

Re: The E-420 and pancake have arrived

Hi Ian,

I can't remember where I posted this question (it's a bit fragmented out here!) but could you please comment on the E-420 live view implementation? is it possible to take multiple shots with the mirror locked up?

Kind Regards

Brian

Re: The E-420 and pancake have arrived

Ian was so nice as to bring the E420 and pancake to the Caerleon do and I had a play with it for about an hour. These are some not very scientific quick opinions ...

As an E500/510 user my 1st impression was size. It is small and if size/weight are an issue then this rig does score well. If you want to be discrete doing street photography and not worrying about "photographers rights" rather than showy (see Ian's picture below ) then it could well be a body for you.

The settings/menu took a few moments to get used to as it doesn't have the direct access buttons to things like the autofocus points you have on the 500/510 and have to go into the menu options to do the same, but they are all in there and I think if I persevered I could have got used to them.

The viewfinder was nice and clear and I found the rear screen good, allowing live view even in bright conditions.

I'm on my Laptop @ present so haven't looked at any pictures I took with it in any detail. Hopefully I'll post some later

Regards
Andy
