Re: Adobe pricing

On Linux I use Digikam to manage my complete process. From downloading, editing and uploading. With Raw Therapee, Hugin and the Gimp plugged into it to support that process. But you can plug in anything you like. There's a lot of great stuff out there.

As a learner in photo editing I've found it OK, although cloning seems easier and 'better' in the Olympus editor. One beef is that X7 is based on Inches rather than the European 'A' based paper sizing however If I crop toi 4/3 I know I'll lose a little top and bottom in Landscape, sides in Portrait, on an A4, or any other A size print.
Mine is the 64 bit version of Pro. I got "After shot" for free too.

IMO PSE12-13 is about all we (photographers) need from a PS program; I have PSE12, LR5, CS2 (free from Adobe) and the Nik programs. LR5 is my #1. But I'm watching the new program set up the Macs although I don't have any desire to learn another program or a new computer for that matter even though my daughter gave me her old mac air with LR5 and CS5. Some day I will work out how to turn on the iphone that come would the package

Re: Adobe pricing

I use LR but I use GIMP for the detailed work. It is FREE and in my mind as good PS :-)

Re: Adobe pricing

I use capture 1 ver 8, for my raw editing and on 1 pefect photo 8 for my final finishing touches, as that does every thing you should ever need in photography both do better than any of ADOBE software.
I know a lot like Adobe software, I wonder i its about investiture in the software or they really beleave they are better.

All I know I have tried them all, and for me at least I get out the best I can with my setup, Pro quality prints upto 40x30 inch crisp sharp and extreamly detailed Pictures.

Re: Adobe pricing

I should try capture 1 some day; seems popular by the more advanced so there must be a reason for that

Thanks for the information Ian. I have been intending to use Digikam as it seems to do what I need (keywording without sidecar files amongst others) however when I came to the Ubuntu download centre there were a lot of reviews that were complaining about its instability with the latest version of Ubuntu. I assume you aren't having any problems with it?

I took delivery of the new laptop on Monday and have installed Ubuntu for the time being. Everything is going remarkably smoothly.

Re: Adobe pricing

I for one think Adobe's CC bundle of 8.78 ie 2.20 weekly is good value. It costs more than that to buy a single Costa coffee or make a short train journey or even a park the car. Food for thought, if you are a Mac user there is a great photo editor just released called Affinity Photo 39.99 it is very fast, competes really well with Photoshop even has a few features that Photoshop hasn't.
