JPEG attachments in forum posts now disabled

I do understand that no everyone will be happy about this but I have made a strategic policy decision to disable JPEG image attachment uploads in forum posts.

Of course you can still post JPEG images in the forum in a variety of ways but using the file attachment facility on the forum has never been a good way to do that here when we have a comprehensively linked and free photo gallery for you all to use.

You will also continue to be able to post images located elsewhere on the Web using the Insert Image button.

Why is the forum file attachment facility not good? It only displays small initial thumbnails and unlike if you post to the gallery, once the thread has rolled off the most recent posts your photos will unlikely be seen much again whereas in the gallery there is more chance they will be seen.

Other file types like pdf, gif, etc. can continue to be attached to forum posts.

Re: JPEG attachments in forum posts now disabled

Not quite sure how this will affect me but I am assuming I can still link to images in the galleries of sister sites DPnow and 4/3 user? Otherwise I won't have the time to upload every file separately onto each site's gallery.

Ian is only talking about attachable files (that are only put in as a thumbnail & when clicked on opens up a photo window) & has disabled the jpegs only whereas photos can be inserted or included in a thread by copying ([CTRL] C) & pasting the code from any other gallery site.

Hi David - I don't think the change affects you are actually many others. You can still paste the BBCode from the gallery into any of our forums

Let me know if you have any further concerns.
