Spirit Level and Firmware Update

When I first had my E-M5 Mk II I was sure the spirit level was slightly out and started lining it up to 1 mark right of centre; however, recently level seems to be 1+ marks to the left?
I hadn't made any changes (I.e. resetting the level) so it got me thinking, did the major firmware update reset the spirit level to the angle the camera was at while being updated?
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
In the meantime I am going to have a go at resetting it if I can find a level surface

The major update would have returned it to the default preset which can be done anytime after playing with the setting of it but I highly doubt it would do anything else.

You don't actually need a level surface. By rotation of the camera 180 on its axis, you can set the level by halving the difference of the 180 degree readings.

Re: Spirit Level and Firmware Update

This is what is in the manual.

Quote:
Level Adjust
You can calibrate the angle of the level gauge.
[Reset]: Resets adjusted values to the default settings.
[Adjust]: Sets the current camera orientation as the 0 position.
I would just reset the level & see how that compares to what you believe is level.

Re: Spirit Level and Firmware Update

Maybe I'm just not awake yet but what's the best way to set the level gauge?

If you are close to the sea; the horizon, aligned with the top, bottom or grid lines, is a very good indicator.

A marble on a smooth surface. If it don't roll, it's level.

OR:

180 rotation method...

Re: Spirit Level and Firmware Update

How I did it...

1. Notice I was always getting lots of perfectly level shots, with my Panasonic GM1, but not with my E-P5.
2. Placed GM1 on my desk, at the office, confirming my desk is perfectly level.
3. Then placed the E-P5 next to my GM1, and noticed this was quite a bit off on both axis.
4. Used the adjust.

Since then, I've had no issues, but the the way Olympus displays the digital level leads to me still not getting as many perfectly level shots as I do with the Panasonic.
