Some advice please.

I have a chance to buy an OMD-EM5 body with 4000 actuations and unmarked for around 300. I have very recently purchased my E-P5 which I like but do miss a viewfinder. I know I will see very little difference in image quality but am tempted. I guess my question is, is this a fair price? I know I could buy a viewfinder but not an option that appeals to me. Any thoughts appreciated.

Re: Some advice please.

I use an E-P5 with a VF-4 and find it to be ergonomically better than the EM-5 and EM-1

The VF-4 sits further back from the body of the EP-5 and just makes it that bit better for me.

Also I don't get nose prints or nose activations

Re: Some advice please.

Thank you for your thoughts Graham, I currently have the VF-3 and would describe it as average, Your comments seem to confirm other views that the VF-4 is much better, however it looks huge in the pictures I have seen. Much food for thought, thanks again.

I had an EP5 for a while and my experience was exactly the opposite which is why I no longer have it! I'd go for the EM5 because I prefer its ergonomics and weather resistance.

Re: Some advice please.

When I had Pens with the earlier EVFs I found they kept getting dislodged from the top of the camera while putting it away or taking it out of the bag. It happened often enough to be irritating and I missed a few shots.

Just another thing to consider: the later ones might be more securely fastened.

Re: Some advice please.

It's personal taste of course, but I never felt comfortable with a fag-packet body and a viewfinder in the hot shoe. In situations like carrying it in a bike bag or a big pocket out on walks, it just felt like a breakage waiting to happen. I thought the E-M5 with its integrated viewfinder was much better.

Myself, I wasn't going to get a PEN where I couldn't use the hotshoe for flash & use an EVF at the same time & went for the E-M5 (as soon as it was released) because of it's new & improved sensor (over the E30) & it had the EVF built in. The VF-3 is a more basic EVF compared to that in the E-M5 which would be similar to the VF-2 so there would be an improvement there. Of course, the VF-4 (same as EVF in E-M1) would be even better & also wouldn't slip out like the VF-2 did. The E-P5 does have other higher specs than the E-M5 though (higher shutter speed & WiFi).
