Re: Chefs - Rachel Koo ; Nigella and Nigel Slater ?

Jamie Oliver is my inspiration in the kitchen, every thing he cooks looks fab, and his shooting style works well on tv.

All other TV chefs should be placed in a roasting tin, and cooked in their own juices.

Since I think best quality ingredients simply cooked are best, I look on all of this media culinary presentation with a serious degree of amusement (actually bordering on hilarity!). I'm a sucker for TV shows like Masterchef, but solely for the entertainment value!

If these 'celebrity' chefs have managed to persuade sufficient punters to turn (or queue) up and pay the prices, then good luck to them. It's a successful business model, albeit not one to which I'd contribute.

Re: Chefs - Rachel Koo ; Nigella and Nigel Slater ?

I don't mind Nigella, indeed I could eat her first, the tastiest dish of all !

We have out here a total creep called Jaimie Oliver, a former UK chef, arrogant guy with piggy eyes. Can't bear to watch his shows.

Edit: woops, with all due respect and apologies to kidslateinlife whose post I've just noticed.

Re: Chefs - Rachel Koo ; Nigella and Nigel Slater ?

I have cooked food from books by
Nigella
Jamie Oliver
Rachel Koo
and others enjoying cooking and eating the results.

I have also cooked in a field for 40 on a wood fire more than a few times and it was enjoyed by many.

The glossy styles of these TV programs is fine/entertaining but its what the food tastes like taht counts.

Here is an example of basic cooking and fine ingredients (marinated checken thigh)

Now were cooking 2 by alf.branch, on Flickr

No spuds but it did taste good and it was a technique I had read about but not tried out.

Though I did win a prize as it was for a competition on a forum I am on.

I should not have been so flippant, Alf. It does look delicious. The technique reminds me of the New Zealand Maoris traditional Hāngi method

I too could eat Nigella, like her cooking too. Like Heston and Nigel Slater.

What'a wrong with Nigel Slater, Chevvy?

My cooking inspiration - my mother (who cooked a mixture of Philippino/Chinese/Malay) as well as British staples. One of my favourite dishes from the Philippines is pork and chicken cooked in herbs spices and vinegar, for example It's called Adobo.

Re: Chefs - Rachel Koo ; Nigella and Nigel Slater ?

I am very much of the 'old school' I love my food that is why I'm over weight.
I have had the good fortune to dine at some very well regarded establishments (my brother usually pays) and generally come away feeling hungry. Tiny small portions at hugely inflated prices.
Jamie Oliver used to work in his parent's pub the 'Cricketers' at Clavering where we've dined many times. In those days the food was superb, well presented, well cooked and reasonably priced. I don't know about nowadays because I haven't been there for a number of years.
My favourite chef? Linda, my wife.
My least favourite? Delia Whatserface.
Nigella! Oooohhh at the risk of being very non PC the "Male Foodies Crumpet"
Sorry ladies but she is to die for.
