Re: Jessops resurrection

Yes they have Oly gear, OM-D with 12-50 and an EPL3 body and Oly and Pany lenses.
Have a few Pany cameras, G3, G5 and acouple of others.

The prices aren't that keen though.

Paul

Re: Jessops resurrection

OMD and kit lens is a 142 dearer than SRS who I usually deal with.

Re: Jessops resurrection

I wouldn't expect them to be competitive on pricing with SRS, I expect they're simply concentrating on matching Currys-PCWorld at the moment.
If they are similar on price with a slightly different range they just might last a while.

Re: Jessops resurrection

Unless catering for the enthusiast is included in the marketing policy I doubt they will be any better than before. All I've seen in print from Peter Jones is that the shops will match their on line prices.

Re: Jessops resurrection

Looking at a Panasonic GX1 with kit lens the Jessops price is £619 and you can get it for under £400 on Amazon:

http://astore.amazon.co.uk/ftu-uk-21/detail/B00638QMEG

Jessops isn't stocking the GF5 as far as I can see, either.

A black OM-D E-M5 with 12-50 kit lens is £1139.99 on Jessops and £949 on Amazon:

http://astore.amazon.co.uk/ftu-uk-21/detail/B0073A1DWE

So, not looking too good.

Ian

Re: Jessops resurrection

Went to Birmingham. Still getting stock in. PL5 549GBP and the PM2 was competitive, ( I don't exactly recall the price, maybe 449), the OMD 1149. Didn't get a real good feel on what online prices they would match, thiers or others. I imagine the staff is still getting up to speed on that. I should have been more observant.

Personal experience. I went in, was looking around the store, one person approached me as I was by the cameras. There was also a staff member greating customers at the door. I spent a considerable amount of time looking at the tripods, considering a new tripod head. No one came around, I had to go find some one. They had a bunch of staff on, but they were pretty much in the front of the store by the cameras. To me it felt like the same old Jessops.

I do think the prices will be more competitive, they'll have to be. I'm thinking Mr Jones bought the stores and stock for a price and is going to sell it at a higher price til it clears, then when he orders his stock from the suppliers he'll negotiate a better price and the store prices will fall accordingly. Maybe I'm wrong.
