Otherwise, there is "New Topic" at the start of the thread. Posting a photo is the same here, assuming you use Flickr. I just copy the BB address and hey presto...

I really do feel at a loss now as I can't see a Reply or a New Topic tab, button or anything like them to click on! Maybe it didn't load properly and I need to delete it all and start again? Or maybe it's just teling me to stick with what I know

Are you actually logged in, if not you won't see the New Topic or post Reply buttons.

It's only when you are logged in things change and then what you see depends on where you are on the website.

If you select Forums then you see a list of all the Forums no buttons at all.

The forums are grouped into sub-areas you can either click on one of the sub-areas to see all the separate Topics or simply click on a specific Topic and it will show you all the Threads in that Topic.

If you are looking at a sub-area page there is a button about six lines down from top on the left called New Topic.
If you are looking at a Thread then the button changes to New Reply

Hope this makes sense

Hehe - well I've only just approved your application to join, so that explains a lot

Even if Phill was not logged into FTU as a member, surely his observations are still valid and worthy of consideration. Where any forum allows access to non-members, however limited, it needs to have an attractive and user friendly interface available to those non-members. If this is not found to be the case and they struggle to find their way around the site, any casual but interested visitor may decide not to apply for membership.

Are you saying any anonymous person should be allowed to post or comment on submitted threads without actually joining the forum? I think unchecked/unattributable postings are a recipe for total mayhem and the end of any decent forum.

Re: I'm working on this site's sibling...

I feel that you would expect to see post and reply butttons when not logged in... and they take you to the log in and/or register as a new user page with a message that you must log in to post a message.

Where did I make that suggestion ?

If you read my post correctly you will see ...... "Where any forum allows access to non-members, however limited"

This forum allows limited access to non-members as do most fora but doesn't allow non-members to post or reply to threads.

Re: I'm working on this site's sibling...

I suspect the confusion was in that I had registered OK and could see my name at the top when logged in. However, I didn't realise that I still needed to wait for Ian to approve my registration before I could do anything. I can now see the reply button so will try it out in a few minutes. I suspect all will be well now and I can get on with trying it out.

Re: I'm working on this site's sibling...

Well managed my first post to FTU I got an error at first (sorry Ian can remember what it said now) then tried again and was told it was a duplicate. So I tried again about 10 minutes later and it posted straight away but I then saw my original post as well so I deleted my now second duplicate post? Maybe just teething problems with a new user?

The site was just getting used to you, Phil

OK - interesting, I haven't come across that myself.

Do you mind clearing your FTU cookies and re-logging in?
