PS ,,I just checket it and it was set as you suggest,,so not an improvement ..I usually turn it on ..put it to the eye and take the pic but when my eye is not to it //

I think the answer is to cover the eye sensor hole with some tape and that makes it think you eye is there all the time ...thanks
A dirty EVF sensor will do that so black tape should be quite effective & then if you need to 'chimp' you could then use the EVF/Screen switch to change to manual selection & back to Auto when done.
I fiddle with violins (when I'm not fiddling with a camera).
