And even USB 2.0 readers are not all giving the same speed.

I had a USB 2.0 reader, one of those cheap Chinese no brand thingies you get on eBay for under 5 postage included. Then I bought the Belkin model here:

Once it arrived, I tested both my readers to see whether there was any transfer speed differences once connected to the PC. I tried with a CF card, a MMC card and a SDHC card.

In all cases, the Belkin proved to be faster, and by quite a margin. We're talking about 30% transfer speed increase or so.

So like most things in life, you have to pay more for quality.
