I do find this trend to very large 50mm lenses interesting. The Sony 55/1.8 is pretty big, as is the Nikon 50/1.8. The new Panasonic 50/1.4 takes it to crazy levels though. Back in my Canon days I had their 50/1.4 and it was tiny in comparison. It wasn't a bad performer either.
