There is a big debate inside the microcosm of forum operators because (and there is much truth in this) the company that took over the vBulletin product a few years back didn't do a very good job of developing the platform.

This did wind up a lot of forum operators who felt the need to migrate (which is very hard work) their boards to different platforms. On top of that the original developers of vBulletin, who sold the company in the first place, then set up a rival company to develop Xenforo, a direct competitor to vBulletin. I think the debate got far too personalised. I did think about switching platforms but in the end I have decided to stay with vBulletin and we are licensed up to the latest version.

vB5 started off badly but it is now fine. Indeed, the same can be said of vB4.
