I believe that the suggested method is a more secure way of attachment, with less chance of accidently hitting the lens release button and uncoupling the lens with the converter already attached to...

since color doesn't work and the composition and contrasts are good, how about a Duo tone with a pale blue gray tint, to give the feeling of the cold you experienced ;-)

Typically any company will be very closed mouthed about problems since it can become a serious liability.
That's what warrantees cover
.
