I would also echo Pauls thoughts about the FZ1000 as a possible solution and if video is a factor then it is worth noting the camera can do 4K with an option to extract an 8mb still from the footage.

We also have a blackbird who adopts a similar open mouthed pose and with wings fully extended on the grass - I haven't managed a picture anywhere near as good as these though!

I lost one and gave one to my son when he went backpacking to Australia a few years ago. I just showed him how to put it into Iauto, operate the zoom/movies and change the battery - it worked...
